CCTV & Security questions, answered
How many cameras does an average house need?
For a typical 5–10 marla house, four cameras usually cover the main gate, the driveway, the rear approach and the internal entrance. We map it during the site visit rather than selling you a fixed package.
How long is footage kept?
That depends on hard drive size, camera count and resolution. A 2TB drive with four cameras at 1080p typically holds around 20–30 days of continuous recording. We size the drive to the retention period you want.
Can I view the cameras from abroad?
Yes, through the manufacturer's mobile app over your internet connection. We set it up and test it on your phone before we leave.
Do you supply the cameras?
We can source them at cost and show you the invoice, or you can buy your own. Our installation labour rate is the same either way.
Where should cameras actually be mounted?
Between eight and ten feet - high enough to be out of reach, low enough to get a face. Above ten feet you record the tops of heads, which is no use to anyone including the police.
Will it work in a power cut or if the internet drops?
Recording continues on a UPS if you have one, and the recorder keeps writing to its drive with no internet at all. You lose remote viewing while the connection is down, not the footage.
Is it legal to point a camera at the street?
Your own gate and frontage, yes. Deliberately covering a neighbour's door, windows or private space is asking for a dispute, so we angle to avoid it and will tell you if a position you want is a problem.
