The hardest part of getting work done on a house in Islamabad or Rawalpindi is not finding someone. It is knowing whether the number you have just been quoted is fair. Most trades here quote on the doorstep, after they have seen the house, the car outside and how worried you look. That is how the same tap repair costs one family Rs 500 and another Rs 2,500.
This guide lists what common home repairs actually cost, using our own published rates. You can use it as a benchmark whoever you hire. If a quote you have been given is far outside these ranges, ask what is different about your job, and expect a clear answer.
Plumbing

A dripping tap is one of the cheapest jobs in the house and one of the most commonly overcharged. It is usually a worn cartridge or washer. If you are quoted several thousand rupees for a drip, ask what is being replaced and why. Full details on our plumbing page.

One warning worth repeating: if a breaker keeps tripping, the fix is not a bigger breaker. A breaker trips because something downstream is drawing more than the circuit was built for, and replacing it with a larger one removes the protection instead of the problem. See our electrical page.

Most ACs that stop cooling do not need gas. They need a proper service. Gas charging costs roughly twice a service, so it is worth ruling out the cheaper cause first, and worth finding the leak before paying for gas twice. More on our AC page.

Rough rule for repair versus replace: if the repair costs more than a third of a comparable new machine and the appliance is past eight years old, replacing is usually the better decision. See appliance repair.

Small carpentry jobs are much cheaper per item when booked together. Three separate call-outs for a sticking door, a drawer and two cabinet catchers will cost noticeably more than one visit covering all of it. See carpentry.

A bathroom that still looks stained after cleaning usually has limescale rather than dirt, especially in Rawalpindi. Scale needs a descaler, not more scrubbing. See cleaning.

Camera placement matters far more than camera resolution. A camera covering a doorway at head height identifies a face. A camera on the parapet covering the whole plot gives you a shape. See CCTV installation.
Work priced per square foot
Some jobs cannot honestly be quoted before someone has seen the area, because the price depends almost entirely on how many square feet there are, what the existing surface is, and what material you choose. For us that is tiling and flooring, painting, roof and waterproofing, masonry and renovation.
These are quoted on survey, per square foot, in writing before anything starts. Be careful of anyone who gives you a confident total for painting a whole house over the phone without asking the area, the current condition of the walls, or whether material is included. That number will change once work begins.
What actually changes the price
- Access. A third-floor flat with no lift, or a concealed pipe behind tiling, is more work than the same job in an open ground-floor room.
- Condition. Older fittings break when disturbed. A repair in a house where everything is thirty years old genuinely takes longer.
- Material. Whether you supply it or we do, and what grade you choose, moves the total more than labour does on most finishing jobs.
- Previous repairs. Work done badly by someone else often has to be undone first, and that is real time.
- Quantity. Several small jobs in one visit cost less per job than several separate call-outs.
How to avoid being overcharged
- Get the price in writing before anyone travels to you, not after they are standing in your house.
- Ask for a range, then ask what would push it to the top of that range.
- Ask whether material is included, and who buys it.
- Ask what the warranty covers, and for how long. Workmanship and parts are different things.
- If the quote changes once work has started, that should be explained and agreed before the work continues, not presented at the end.

A note on these numbers
These are the ranges we publish for Islamabad and Rawalpindi as of 2026. Prices move with material costs, and a complicated version of any job on this list will sit above the range. The point of publishing them is not that every job costs exactly this. It is that you should be told the number before the work, not after.
